Thanksgiving Week is here, and that signals a flurry of activity for many women across America, particularly moms, who are diving into holiday preparations. There are turkeys to brine, pies to bake, and that Watergate salad recipe to find, as it’s time for that iconic pale green dish to make its anticipated return. As always, well-meaning friends and relatives start asking, “How can I assist?” However, TikTok creator Kelsey (@kelsey_p90) notes there’s a twist. “They seldom like the reply,” she states in a recent video. “Wanna know what that reply is?”
Just then, a child’s piercing scream echoes from another room.
“Them! Take my motherf*cking kids!”
“I could tidy this house perfectly,” she goes on. “But with thing one and thing two clinging to me, wailing for snacks…?”
It’s safe to say we’ve all experienced that, right? Maybe even right now…
“This isn’t limited to hosting gatherings,” Kelsey clarifies. “In the context of daily life challenges: take ’em! … ‘I could help you rearrange some furniture!’ I don’t need you lifting a finger in my home. I need you to lift a child out of my home. They’re very food-driven! They’ll be just fine. Just, like, [take them to a] park!”
“My mom asked, ‘How can I assist you this week for Thanksgiving?’ I said, ‘Take your f*cking grandkids.’ … they never appreciate it.”
“So if you’re seeing this,” she wraps up, “do them a favor and take the kids. That’s all.”
It’s fairly obvious that TikTok users were fully on board with this relatable commentary. Many responded with enthusiastic affirmations and shared their gratitude for being able to hand off their children to a caring family member during such occasions.
“Truer words have never been said,” one commenter exclaimed. “The only assistance I truly need is help with my kids. I adore them more than anything, but dear lord, I just need five minutes…”
“My greatest advantage in life is that my parents would race to take my child out for some fun,” another wrote appreciatively. “They’re crazy about him, and I’m all for it.”
“’Take the kids’ is always my response, and if they say they can’t, I’m like ‘Well, then you didn’t actually want to help, did you?’” remarked another user.
If you’re a parent, particularly one who’s riding the hosting wave this year, you completely understand. But if you’re a family member contemplating whether to handle energetic kids, take a moment to reflect on this wise comment…
“Even two hours — a movie — will make a difference! Moana 2 premieres Wednesday.”
